A PLACE WHERE STUDENTS CAN LEARN THROUGH CREATION.
WHY IS MAKING IMPORTANT?
With a passion for Teaching and Learning, Dan Varney has dedicated the past 7 years to inspiring students to have a lifelong love of learning. His love for Math and Science shows in the enthusiasm and energy that he brings to the classroom. In his classroom, students' natural curiosity is embraced and developed. They learn to ask questions about the world and discover their own learning. His international experience has given him a true understanding that diversity is a great strength.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Studying the world around us through observation and describing our universe and everything in it. Scientists have the creativity to ask new questions and discover their own solutions.
Advancements that allow us to do more and achieve better results simply by using better tools. Technology is the result of applying scientific knowledge using engineering principles.
Designing and building solutions to meet a human need. This process requires the application of scientific and mathematical knowledge.
Creation for its own sake without the need to have a purpose other than self expression and prompting the reaction of viewers. One of the purest forms of creativity.
LANGUAGE OF SCIENCE
The system numbers and symbols used to describe and model the world around us allowing us to understand phenomena and make predictions about the future.
IT ALL STARTS IN YOUR HEAD
WHERE DO IDEAS COME FROM?
THE TRUE SIGN OF INTELLIGENCE
IS NOT KNOWLEDGE BUT
As technology continues to advance at a greater and greater pace we really only have one advantage over computers and that is our imaginations. Using only our minds we are able to envision what things might be and we can create new ideas. In order to embrace this ability to innovate we must value imagination and all that it can do.
HAPPINESS LIES IN THE JOY OF ACHIEVEMENT AND THE THRILL OF CREATIVE EFFORT.
-Franklin D. Roosevelt
Some people feel that creativity is a fixed trait. That some people are born creative while overs are not. The truth is that creativity is something that we all can learn and just like any other skill we can only improver it through practice. The more we think of ideas that are deliberately unique the more creative we will become.
WE BELIEVE THAT IDEAS ONLY BECOME GREAT WHEN THEY ARE CHALLENGED AND TESTED.
-Ed Catmull, PIXAR
There has been some debate over whether the creative process is more successful as an individual or in a group setting. A community of people working towards creative innovation allows makers to share and build on each others ideas to end up with some of the most unique new creations.
